Clenbuterol scandal: Jiyuan Shuanghui bought problem pigs
On March 15, 2011, CCTV's Weekly Quality Report exposed that Henan Jiyuan Shuanghui purchased and slaughtered pigs fed clenbuterol, and Shuanghui's claimed "18 inspections" did not include clenbuterol testing. In follow-up investigations, 17 inventory pigs at Jiyuan Shuanghui tested positive. Shuanghui admitted the report was true and apologized, put the Jiyuan factory under indefinite production suspension for rectification, and recalled related products. Henan caught multiple clenbuterol suspects, and 12 public officials were transferred to judicial authorities. Shuanghui's stock plunged and sales fell sharply; the incident pushed a nationwide special rectification campaign on clenbuterol.
