In 2012, Angel Yeast subsidiaries in Chongzuo, Suixian, and Yili exceeded ammonia nitrogen standards in wastewater, and the listed-company environmental compliance review was suspended; in 2018, the Yili subsidiary was penalized three times for excessive odor, the Chifeng subsidiary was fined for total phosphorus exceedance, and a Chongzuo concentrate leak polluted the Zuo River; subsidiary malodor emissions persisted for years. Cumulative fines exceeded 1 million yuan, and the company was ordered to rectify and relocate.
