B2 Luncheon Meat Found with Carcinogenic Nitrofuran in Hong Kong

In December 2007, Hong Kong testing found that Shanghai Maling B2 low-sodium luncheon meat cans contained trace nitrofuran metabolites (banned veterinary drug residues); Hong Kong recalled about 20,000 cans, and supermarkets in Guangzhou and other places pulled the products. A Shanghai investigation determined the source was 3.2 tons of contaminated raw material purchased in 2006. All products using that raw material were recalled.
