Maxam trademark split four ways sparks infringement disputes and brand confusion

The right to use the Maxam trademark belongs to four companies, including Shanghai Jahwa (cosmetics) and Shanghai Maxam Daily Chemicals (toothpaste). Each operating separately led to a confused brand image and infringement disputes. In 2007, Shanghai Toothpaste Factory, to which Maxam belonged, and other domestic toothpaste brands were caught in the "diethylene glycol toothpaste" controversy, were banned from sale in some overseas markets, and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine launched an investigation. Brand value was eroded.
