  1. 2003

    SARS outbreak at Amoy Gardens

In late March 2003, SARS broke out in Block E of Amoy Gardens, with 321 cases by April 15. The investigation concluded that the source patient's excreta passed through dried U-shaped water traps, causing virus-containing sewage droplets to flow backward and spread through exhaust fans and the light well. Residents were quarantined, and the government investigated and improved building drainage design.
