Automattic interim CFO Jeremy Klaperman departs less than a month into the role
Automattic's interim chief financial officer Jeremy Klaperman has left the company less than a month after taking the role. According to sources, his departure followed CEO Matt Mullenweg demoting him back to his former position at the VIP Enterprise unit after a disagreement over a work project related to employee performance reviews; a source also said the board never legally approved his interim title and that Klaperman was upset the board was considering external candidates for the CFO role. The exit is another executive departure amid leadership turmoil following a September governance crisis in which the WordPress.com parent company's entire board quit or was fired. Automattic confirmed the departure and, after publication, said in an X post that evaluating external candidates for critical roles alongside internal people stepping up is best practice. The company is still performing an external search for a qualified CFO candidate.
