BAE Systems fined $15,000 over air pollution violations at Holston Army Ammunition Plant
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation issued an enforcement order fining BAE Systems, operator of the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport, $15,000 for violating state air pollution regulations. The order says the company failed to properly document required inspections and maintenance of pollution-control equipment, state records show missing monitoring data for emissions-control equipment, and the company failed to disclose certain violations in its original compliance reports. BAE Systems submitted corrected reports in April. The order does not establish whether the violations resulted in excess pollution reaching surrounding communities.
