Shares plunge 43% in a day to penny-stock status; fined over illegal entrusted loans
On April 1, 2020, Bank of Gansu's H-shares plunged 43.48% in a single day to HK$0.65. The company said the drop was due to shareholders' pledged shares being forcibly liquidated, compounded by factors including declining performance and rising non-performing loans. In July 2024, its Lanzhou Jincheng branch was fined and had 250,000 yuan confiscated by the Gansu financial regulator for issuing entrusted loans to real estate companies lacking all four required certificates; the branch manager at the time was warned. Penalty: 250,000 yuan confiscated and fined; the share price remained depressed for a long time.
