Guilin crash of CAAC Flight 3303
On April 26, 1982, a CAAC Trident 2E operating Flight 3303 from Guangzhou to Guilin crashed near Guilin, killing all 112 people on board. It was the deadliest crash during the "CAAC" era, and the cause remains disputed (autopilot failure or improper operation). In December of the same year, another accident occurred on Flight 2311 from Lanzhou to Guangzhou when a passenger's smoking started a fire, killing 25 people. The crash pushed forward civil aviation safety management reform; in 1987 the government-enterprise-integrated "CAAC" was split up.
