    Former Shenhua Chairman Zhang Xiwu Removed for Serious Discipline Violations

    In July 2017, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection reported that Zhang Xiwu, former deputy director of SASAC under the State Council and former chairman of Shenhua Group, had committed serious discipline violations; he was removed from his Party post, administratively dismissed, demoted to a non-leadership position at the principal bureau level, and had illicit gains confiscated. Reports said his problems involved stock-related transactions during his tenure at Shenhua and were directly related to Shenhua-related problems. Previously, multiple senior executives in the Shenhua system had fallen. Zhang Xiwu was removed; corruption problems in the Shenhua system drew attention.
