    CNKI fined RMB 87.6 million for abuse of market dominance

    The State Administration for Market Regulation found that CNKI abused its dominant position in the Chinese-language academic literature online database services market by charging unfair high prices and imposing exclusive dealing restrictions; previously universities and scholars had repeatedly clashed with CNKI over sharp increases in subscription fees, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences had suspended use of CNKI. It was ordered to stop the illegal conduct, fined 5% of its 2021 domestic sales of RMB 1.752 billion, totaling RMB 87.6 million, and to carry out comprehensive rectification.
