Attack, detention, and occupation of the campus
Indonesian military forces and Aitarak militia attacked the Polytechnic, detained hundreds of students and lecturers, and occupied the campus after accusing students of supporting armed resistance.

Killing of Agostinho de Carvalho and Estevão Pereira
Two Polytechnic student activists were detained after returning to the campus, tortured and killed, and secretly buried. Their remains were recovered in 2001.
