Forced labor and wartime production during the Nazi period
During the Second World War, Drägerwerk participated in armaments and civil-defense production and employed forced laborers. Records describe approximately 1,200 forced laborers employed by 1941 and nearly 500 women transferred from the Ravensbrück concentration camp to the company’s Hamburg-Wandsbek facilities in 1944. The women produced gas masks, cleared bomb damage, and some were subjected to experiments involving survival in sealed air-raid shelters.
