    Auction of fake Wu Guanzhong-attributed painting ruled infringement

    In 1993, Duoyunxuan and Hong Kong Yongcheng Antique Auction jointly auctioned a "Portrait of Mao Zedong" bearing Wu Guanzhong's signature; after Wu said it was a forgery, the auction proceeded as usual. Wu sued, and the court found infringement of the right of authorship; the case was selected as a Supreme People's Court Gazette case. Duoyunxuan and Yongcheng had to publicly apologize and pay compensation (Duoyunxuan about RMB 27,000).
