California wage and hour violations
The U.S. Department of Labor found that eight IT technicians brought from Bangalore for EFI's Fremont network installation were paid in rupees at rates below California's wage requirements. Some reporting also described extremely long working weeks. EFI characterized the incident as an administrative error and said the workers continued receiving Indian compensation and a special assignment bonus. The company paid a civil penalty and back wages.
