NebuAd behavioral-targeting privacy controversy
Embarq participated in a trial involving NebuAd technology intended to analyze customers' internet browsing activity for targeted advertising. The practice prompted privacy and legal criticism and attracted congressional scrutiny, including an inquiry from Congressman Edward Markey. Embarq later described its participation as a trial and said it was not then using NebuAd for behavioral advertising.
