Menlo Ventures announces investment in AI coding startup Factory
Menlo Ventures partner Matt Murphy and his team announced in a blog post on Monday that the firm has invested in AI coding startup Factory, as part of Factory's latest funding round announced last month at a $5 billion valuation. Menlo declined to disclose the investment amount; a source familiar with the deal said the investment was significant to Menlo — not a token gesture — and that Menlo would have invested more had there been room on the cap table. The announcement came days after Vinod Khosla called Factory a struggling also-ran.

Factory CEO accuses board adviser of sharing confidential information with Cognition
Factory co-founder and CEO Matan Grinberg said in an X post on 2026-09-30 that he fired VC Chris Degnan from his role as Factory board adviser, alleging that Degnan shared confidential information with Factory's biggest competitor, Cognition. Two hours after the post, Degnan announced that he had joined Cognition as chief revenue officer and refuted the allegations, saying he was not fired but resigned when he told Grinberg he was taking the job.
