Sardinian environmental-pollution investigation

In May 2017, Fluorsid was implicated in an investigation concerning alleged environmental disaster, pollution, and improper waste handling near its Macchiareddu plant and at a storage area in Terrasili, Assemini. Authorities seized two areas and alleged that fluorine-bearing dust, heavy metals, and inorganic compounds had affected soil, groundwater, grazing land, and livestock. The investigation concluded in 2018 with 22 suspects, including company and public-control personnel. In 2019, eleven individuals accepted suspended sentences and fines, while the positions of the remaining eleven, including Fluorsid managers and Tommaso Giulini, were dismissed. The proceedings ultimately treated Fluorsid and its senior management as unrelated to the conduct at issue.
