Hohhot Fufeng Named in Inspection Over Odor Pollution; Procuratorate Files 100 Million Yuan Public Interest Lawsuit
The Hohhot production base of Fufeng Group had long emitted odorous gases that disturbed residents since it began production in 2009, and in 2018 was listed as a key issue in the central environmental inspection's 'look back.' The environmental protection department ordered production limits and fined it 300,000 yuan; the Hohhot procuratorate filed an environmental restoration public interest lawsuit of about 105.6 million yuan. Fufeng subsequently invested in odor treatment and paid the remaining 40 million yuan; after the problem was resolved, the procuratorate withdrew the lawsuit. The company was fined and invested heavily in rectification, becoming a typical case of environmental public interest litigation.
