    AION S 'battery gate' and warranty-denial dispute over CALB batteries

    Some GAC Aion AION S vehicles—many used as ride-hailing cars—equipped with CALB 177Ah batteries experienced swelling, leakage, power loss and other failures. Owners accused Aion of using voltage-difference testing as a shield to deny warranty claims, setting strict extended-warranty conditions, and avoiding a recall; Aion at one point said 'we have no right to announce a recall.' In July 2026, Aion said the recall process had been initiated and upgraded warranty service. About 210,000 ride-hailing drivers are involved, and it may seek compensation from the battery supplier.
