German criticism of parcel handling and damage
German consumer reviews in 2010 and 2014 criticized GLS for handling problems and incorrect parcel collections. In 2019, Stern reported a high damaged-goods indicator associated with the company, renewing public criticism of service quality.

Piacenza labor dispute and worker death
Parcel workers at GLS facilities and subcontractors in several Italian cities protested working conditions and subcontracting arrangements. During the dispute in Piacenza, a van broke through a picket line and struck and killed Egyptian worker Abd Elsalam Ahmed Eldanf. Prosecutors classified the death as a traffic accident and said no strike or protest was taking place at that precise moment, but the case triggered further demonstrations involving thousands of workers.
