HNA's Aviation Asset Integration and Red-Chip Listing Plan Aborted

In 2007, HNA formed Grand China Air and planned to integrate its airlines for a red-chip listing in Hong Kong, but the acquisition of Shenhua's stake in Xinhua Air was blocked and Air China contested the deal; issues over the name and shareholding structure left the listing stalled for a long time. In 2012, HNA switched to making Hainan Airlines its sole aviation integration platform, and Grand China Air lost its platform status. Its complex shareholding later became a focus of HNA's debt crisis. The integration plan was abandoned.
