Accommodation with the Nazi regime
The Grand Landlodge attempted to preserve itself by removing or changing Masonic terminology, symbols and ritual elements and adopting the name German-Christian Order of the Knights Templar. The effort failed to win acceptance from the Nazi authorities and is described in the historical record as a serious misjudgment of National Socialism’s hostility toward Freemasonry.
