    HFC-23 destruction and carbon-credit controversy

During the 2000s, GFL was reported to have destroyed HFC-23, a by-product of coolant production, and received carbon credits in return. A 2010 report said carbon-credit income represented nearly half of revenue for the 2009–2010 financial year. The episode was discussed in the context of concerns about the environmental and economic incentives of carbon-credit programs.
