Environmental liabilities associated with former industrial sites
Some former Gulf and Western industrial and mining operations became associated with environmental cleanup proceedings after closure. The Eagle mine connected to New Jersey Zinc was designated a Superfund site, and a former fertilizer plant in DePue, Illinois also became subject to Superfund-related responsibility involving successor parties.
