Historical controversy surrounding the Folk Music Prize

Media reports revealed that the founders of the foundation’s Folk Music Prize, Maria and Max Wutz, had been National Socialists. HSS had reportedly become aware of the issue in 2001 but had not publicly disclosed it. The foundation ended the prize, commissioned an independent investigation by the Institute for Contemporary History, and redirected approximately 1.4 million euros of inherited funds toward Bavarian-Israeli youth exchanges and a memorial project at the former Mühldorfer Hart subcamp of Dachau.
