“Flying Shark Squad” Encoder False Alarm Stops Ride Mid-Air

In April 2021, during operation of Beijing Happy Valley’s “Flying Shark Squad” attraction, an encoder false alarm triggered emergency braking; visitors were trapped for about 40 seconds before the ride resumed, and video raised concerns about amusement ride safety. Previously, the park’s “Crystal Wing” also made an emergency stop after a small bird triggered its sensor. The park said this was a normal activation of a safety protection mechanism and that it resumed after maintenance.
