    Facial-recognition and biometric-data controversy

    An archived IP Biometrix portfolio page described an AI facial-recognition system associated with Happy restaurants. The materials referred to monitoring employee smiles and showed broader customer-profiling capabilities, including analysis of physical attributes, inferred ethnicity, and emotional states. Happy said it had only evaluated a proposal from GI Mobility Services between September and December 2023, rejected it on 14 December 2023, and never deployed the system. The issue raised concerns about biometric-data processing and privacy-policy transparency under European data-protection rules.
