Family sues Harmony at West Ashley memory care facility over Alzheimer's patient's fire ant injuries and death

    Lawsuit filed

A South Carolina family is suing Harmony at West Ashley, a memory care facility in Charleston, alleging that an unlocked door allowed their 83-year-old relative with advanced Alzheimer's to wander outside on July 23, where she was found with more than 1,000 fire ant bites and stings. The lawsuit accuses the facility of negligence, wrongful death, and violating South Carolina laws governing Alzheimer's care; the patient died on August 7. Charleston police are also investigating.
