Workplace culture and animal-care investigations
Following the resignations of the zoo’s only two Black zookeepers, Dane County investigated allegations involving management, racism, retaliation, a lack of employees of color, animal welfare, and favoritism. The county review described a toxic work environment. A subsequent independent investigation found no evidence of a hostile work environment or discrimination but identified some isolated historical concerns about animal treatment.
