Delaware commission fines Hideout Arcade Bar & Grille over anti-trans discrimination

    Fine or penalty

The Delaware Human and Civil Rights Commission ruled that Hideout Arcade Bar & Grille and owner Bryan Derrickson discriminated and retaliated against a transgender woman, Kaitie Sorber, by enforcing a restroom policy tied to ID gender markers and banning her after she criticized the policy. The commission ordered Derrickson to pay $15,000, including $10,000 to Sorber and a $5,000 civil penalty, and directed the bar to change its restroom policy, lift Sorber's ban, and train employees on anti-discrimination and equal accommodations.

    Company response

    • Remediation — Hideout Arcade Bar & Grille

It also directed the bar to change its restroom access policy and lift its ban on Sorber.

    Source excerpt

    • On July 16, 2026, a majority of the commission voted that the Hideout and Derrickson had violated Sorber’s rights by discriminating against her based on her gender identity.
    • The commission also ruled that the Hideout had retaliated against Sorber by banning her over her social media criticism of the restroom policy.
    • The commission subsequently ordered Derrickson to pay $15,000 — $10,000 to Sorber for the restroom incident and her subsequent denial of entry, and a $5,000 civil penalty to support education about DEAL’s prohibitions against discrimination and retaliation.
