Recovery of Munnings works
Auction professionals recognized missing Munnings paintings and studies during an estate cataloging assignment. They contacted the foundation and the FBI, and the works were returned. Six paintings of Hobcaw Barony by Louis Aston Knight were still reported missing.
2003
Artwork disappearance from Bellefield House
After a curator's contract ended, several works disappeared from Bellefield House. A John Leache print and other foundation property were recovered from the former curator's residence. The individual pleaded no contest to charges and received probation; important works, including a portrait of Belle Baruch by Sir Alfred Munnings and Audubon prints, remained missing for years.
