    Controversy over the must-be-18 policy

Pyramid's policy, introduced on September 9, 2005, required patrons under 18 to have a parent or guardian with them after 4:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings. People who appeared to be under 18 could be asked for identification. Local critics, including members of the Latino community, accused the mall of discriminatory treatment, while Pyramid stated that the policy was intended to improve the environment for adult shoppers and reduce shoplifting.
