    3·15 'HP quality scandal': laptop GPU defects; quality watchdog steps in

    At the 2010 CCTV 3·15 gala, HP DV2000, V3000 and other laptops were exposed for quality problems including GPU overheating, black screens and flickering screens. HP's after-sales service shifted blame using reasons such as 'cockroaches' and the 'student dorm environment', triggering large-scale complaints. The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine stepped in and hoped HP would voluntarily recall the products; HP admitted that some products had quality problems and launched an extended warranty plan, but did not recall them. HP's reputation in China was severely damaged.
