1968
Page eleven scandal
The scandal centered on an allegedly missing page from a crude-oil sales contract between IPC and the state-owned Empresa Petrolera Fiscal. The incident generated accusations that the Belaúnde government had secretly favored IPC and became part of the crisis preceding the 1968 military takeover.
Dispute over taxes and concession obligations
The Peruvian state accused IPC of failing to pay the full taxes and other amounts required under its petroleum concessions. The dispute was amplified by claims that successive pro-American governments had granted the company advantageous exceptions.
