    Jinjiang Inn hygiene scandal: towels used to wipe toilets, sheets unwashed for a month

    In February 2019, media and online users exposed hygiene problems at Shanghai outlets of Jinjiang Inn and Jinjiang Metropolo, including using towels to wipe toilets, bed sheets and mattresses left uncleaned for long periods, and hair found in kettles. After "Huazong" exposed hygiene issues at several five-star hotels in November 2018, the matter made hygiene at budget hotel chains a focus of public opinion again. Jinjiang responded that it would investigate and rectify the problems and strengthen outlet management. The incident triggered widespread discussion of hotel cleaning standards and regulation.
