    BTK communications and subliminal broadcast

    KAKE received a letter from Dennis Rader, later identified as the BTK serial killer, requesting a hidden communication with police. The station broadcast a subliminal message during an evening newscast in an unsuccessful attempt to persuade him to surrender. Rader later sent additional letters to KAKE in 2004 and 2005 before his arrest and conviction.
