CFTO receives MSC certification for Indian Ocean skipjack
Compagnie Française du Thon Océanique (CFTO) was awarded Marine Stewardship Council certification for its Indian Ocean skipjack tuna catches. The certification covers an eight-vessel operation based in the Seychelles and fishing in the Seychelles, Mauritius, Mayotte, the French Southern Antarctic Territories, and international waters.

MSC pledges funding for fishery observer welfare
The Marine Stewardship Council announced that it would designate £100,000 through its Ocean Stewardship Fund for research to improve fishery observers’ safety and security, following an observer’s death and reports of bribery, intimidation and violence toward observers.

Gulf menhaden fishery achieves MSC certification
The Gulf menhaden fishery was certified as sustainable against Marine Stewardship Council standards. Omega Protein and Daybrook Fisheries were identified as the fishery’s main participants.
