Greek PM inaugurates 330 MW standalone battery storage plant near Larissa built by Metlen Energy & Metals and Karatzis Group

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis inaugurated the largest standalone battery storage plant yet built in Greece, a 330-megawatt facility in Nea Karyes near Larissa. The plant was built by Metlen Energy & Metals and the Karatzis Group at a cost of more than €170 million and holds 790 megawatt-hours of storage according to company figures. Executives described it as the largest standalone energy storage facility in Eastern Europe and one of the largest in the EU; the plant stores grid power when supply is plentiful and returns it when scarce to balance growing solar and wind output.
