Global game industry layoffs exceed 10,000 in 2026
As of mid-August 2026, the global game industry had confirmed 10,618 job cuts across 126 companies, with 29 studios shut down, according to analyst Mike Straw's monthly tracking; Epic Games cut about 1,000 jobs, Bungie about 292 in a third round, and Microsoft Xbox about 1,600 across Obsidian, Bethesda and Id Software studios.
