Joint venture breaks up, leaving car owners with parts shortages

Nanjing Fiat, hampered by slow model updates, Nanjing Automobile's reluctance to invest further and strategic differences between the two sides, saw Fiat withdraw from the passenger car joint venture at the end of 2007, with models such as the Palio and Siena cleared from inventory and discontinued; after the breakup, although spare parts supply was promised, commonly used parts such as bumpers and headlights were out of stock for a time, making repairs difficult for existing owners. The joint venture dissolved and Nanjing Automobile instead merged with SAIC.
