Omo Washing Powder's 'Removes 99 Stains' Ruled False Advertising; Supermarket Committed Fraud

According to reports by Sina Finance and Hongshang.com in October 2010, Unilever's Omo automatic washing powder claimed it could "easily remove 99 stains," but the effect depended on laboratory conditions such as a drum washing machine, all-cotton mode, a 30-minute wash, and 30°C water temperature, and the packaging did not give sufficient notice in prominent areas. The court found this constituted false advertising and that the supermarket selling it committed fraud; the report said Anhui industry and commerce authorities fined Unilever RMB 100,000 and ordered rectification. Progress: court judgment. Entity involved: Unilever (China) Ltd. Scope: Omo automatic washing powder's "99 stains" claim.
