Repeated spot-check failures and dispute over excessive hexavalent chromium in children’s shoes

Red Dragonfly shoes repeatedly failed spot checks, involving lining friction colorfastness, upper-sole peel strength, flexing performance and other items; in 2011 and 2012 it was fined by industry and commerce authorities for selling substandard leather shoes and shirts, respectively. In 2014, its children's shoes were found by the Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau to have excessive hexavalent chromium; Red Dragonfly said re-inspection passed, but the Shanghai bureau upheld its conclusion. In 2024, elderly walking shoes and in 2025 a Guangdong provincial spot check again failed. The brand's quality image was damaged.
