Rutland Regional Medical Center debuts Intuitive Surgical da Vinci 5 surgical robot

Rutland Regional Medical Center (RRMC) publicly debuted the Intuitive Surgical da Vinci 5 surgical robot at a community event at the Paramount Theatre on Saturday, after the robot was delivered to the hospital the prior week. Intuitive Surgical partnered with RRMC to bring two traveling demonstration machines, one running a virtual simulation and one offering a physical demonstration. The hospital said general surgeons are being trained first, followed by OB-GYN surgeons and urologists, and that the robot will begin being used in surgical cases the first week of November. RRMC said it is the first independent healthcare system in Vermont with its own robot and one of only two da Vinci 5s in the state.
