UK government to review airport drop-off charges after sharp price increases
The UK Department for Transport confirmed it had committed to a government review of airport drop-off charges, saying it was vital to ensure travel remains accessible and that passengers are treated fairly, and hoping airports would exercise restraint on rises. The review follows RAC analysis showing average rises of about a third since summer 2025: Gatwick and Stansted charges rose from £7 to £10, Edinburgh Airport from £6 to £8.50, Bournemouth from £5 to £8, London City Airport charges £8 for five minutes (most expensive per minute, having only introduced charges in 2026), and Belfast International charges £5 for 10 minutes, up £2 on last year. The RAC said four-in-five drivers surveyed consider the charges a 'rip-off', while industry body Airports UK defended the fees as a necessary part of airports' privately owned business model and noted free drop-off options exist.
