    India gives initial approval to state-owned bank merger plans

    Punjab National Bank said it had received a response from the Finance Ministry and that the government had basically approved its proposed merger with Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India, as well as a proposed merger of Kerala Bank and Syndicate Bank.
