Allegations concerning effluent discharge near Pugalur
Three local organisations alleged in September 2009 that TNPL effluent releases into or affecting the Pugalur channel had created concerns about adverse effects on residents and agricultural users. TNPL denied releasing effluent into the channel and cited its environmental-improvement programme, elemental-chlorine-free bleaching and water-use reductions.
