SPs notified by information ministry over false advertising, deceptive billing

In 2007 the Ministry of Information Industry notified 13 non-compliant SPs (wireless value-added service providers), including TOM Online, over problems such as false advertising and tricking users into subscribing to paid services; China Unicom had earlier also placed TOM on a complaint warning list. Carriers took measures including suspending ports, taking services offline and deducting credit points. TOM's wireless business was hit hard, and it later went private and delisted from Nasdaq and the Hong Kong stock market.
