Tsinghua Holdings-controlled Tsinghua Unigroup defaults, enters bankruptcy reorganization and publicly clashes with Zhao Weiguo

Tsinghua Unigroup, 51% held by Tsinghua Holdings, was unable to repay maturing debt in November 2020 and defaulted across the board. It was later ordered by a court into bankruptcy reorganization, and Tsinghua Holdings' equity stake was frozen. During the reorganization, another shareholder Jiankun, controlled by Zhao Weiguo, questioned the undervaluation of assets and the loss of state-owned assets; Tsinghua Holdings publicly stated that Zhao's remarks were 'rumors' and unauthorized. Tsinghua Unigroup completed the reorganization, Tsinghua Holdings exited control, and reform of university-affiliated enterprises advanced.
