Employees detained for reselling park entry passes; "scalper" problem sparks controversy

After Universal Beijing Resort opened in September 2021, tickets were hard to get, and scalpers resold tickets and Universal Express passes at marked-up prices. Police reported that five resort employees used their job access to sell entry passes, reselling individual passes for more than 1,000 yuan, and those involved were administratively detained. In 2024, police arrested more than 50 people involved in tourism-related violations, targeting "unlicensed guides" who marked up and resold Universal Express passes and misled tourists. The resort said it has zero tolerance for ticket scalping and has introduced measures such as real-name registration and anti-crawler systems.
